As part of continuous technical and advisory services provided to PT SMM, our team identified the condition of a major piece of equipment in the coal processing plant (CPP) as a critical risk with regards to its expected remaining life.
PT SMM requested Eptoscore to manage the replacement project acting as owner’s engineer and project management team. Key decision and design factors were taken into consideration during the engineering and procurement phase of the project including:
- existing footprint;
- installed power;
- processing capacity and efficiency;
- spray water configuration and optimisation;
- increase of expected life compared to existing;
- reduction of vibration into existing steel structure.
The decision was made to contract Kwatani as the preferred OEM after evaluating all decision and design factors. Kwatani proceeded to design the new replacement screen incorporating the required improvement and optimisation factors with the Eptoscore and PT SMM team reviewing and approving the design in a systematic manner.
Manufacturing commenced after design approval and acceptance with quality control and assurance undertaken by the Eptoscore team based in South Africa at the Kwatani facilities. The new screen was completely shop assembled and tested under control conditions and with key measurements recorded and compared with design specifications and requirements.
Packing, transport, import and delivery to site was completed successfully within the planned project timeline. The installation and commissioning activities were planned well in advance, coordinated by the Eptoscore team to ensure all parties involved were prepared for safe and on time execution. The on site team consisted of members of Eptoscore, PT SMM, PT Lintech and Kwatani.
Removal of the existing screen, installation and commissioning of the new screen was successfully undertaken within the planned annual shutdown period without any safety or other incidents.
Commissioning, performance testing and handover to PT SMM for beneficial use was achieved using the Eptoscore commissioning and handover procedures and associated sign off and acceptance certificates.
The replacement screen is operating successfully as per the design requirements and client expectations.
